How to use a search engine
To carry out an effective research, the following
advices may prove useful:
- Rather than consulting all the results suggested
by the search engine, it is preferable when research is unfruitful
to formulate the request in several forms, by using synonyms and
by checking the spelling;
- To use the signs understood by the search engines:
in general + in front of a word means that the posted result will
have to include the required word and - that it will not have to
appear in it;
- To use quotation marks, such as for example in
" word group ", which makes it possible to seek groups
of words and not isolated words.
- To use Boolean operators, ex: management AND NOT
management, management OR management, management NEAR/5 management
(the word management appears with less than 5 words of distance
from the word management in the pages which will be selected), management
ADJ marketing (the two words appear together and in this order in
the selected pages), management NOT (accountancy OR marketing) =
one seeks the pages with " management " but without the
pages which deals with accountancy or marketing.
- To use the online help (the search engines do
not function all in the same way) and to test the advanced research
options if necessary.
